We're just hours away from finding out who will be the 45th president of the United States as voters decide between Hillary Clinton, who is odds-on favourite with bookmakers, and her rival, Republican Party nominee Donald Trump.

When is the US presidential election?

The US election takes place today, Tuesday, November 8.

According to analysis by the NBC News Data Analytics Lab, more than 26 million voters have already cast early ballots a week ahead of Election Day - nearly double the amount of early votes at the same point in the 2012 election.

Who will win - Clinton or Trump?

Latest US Election betting odds at bet365 have Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton as the odds-on favourite at 2/9 at time of writing, with Donald Trump available to back at 7/2 with the same firm.

Clinton has been favourite to win the US Election for some time, although bookmaker William Hill last week said betting support for the 69-year-old had "virtually dried up" at the end of October. Sunday night brought another dramatic twist, however, with the news that the FBI have found no evidence of criminality in Clinton's emails seeing her odds of becoming President rapidly cut by bookmakers.

British bookmaker Ladbrokes on Saturday had said punters were "regaining confidence" in Clinton to enter the White House, making her 1/3 and pushing Trump out to 9/4 (from 15/8).

Ladbrokes spokesperson Jessica Bridge told BetOnPolitics.co.uk: "The way the money was coming in for Trump could well have seen him become favourite by Tuesday, but it's starting to slow up and move heavily back towards Clinton sealing the deal."

She added: "This two-horse race isn't over yet."

Will Trump win?

As noted, Clinton is odds-on with bookmakers to win the US Election, but sometimes the bookies do get it wrong. Brexit, anyone?

As the Clinton campaign was recently rocked by an FBI investigation into her use of a private email server, Trump had seen his odds shorten, and his chances of becoming the next US president increase.

In fact, William Hill last week shortened Trump's odds to win the US Presidential Election nine times in two weeks until his price started to drift again at the weekend, going out to 4/1 on Sunday night after the FBI cleared Clinton.

Will he win? Time will tell. Can he win? Recent polls, along with the betting support being reported by bookmakers, suggest it is entirely possible.
